3M VHB Tape for Industrial Applications
3M VHB tape for industrial application: Which should you use?
Armed with the right materials, you can rethink the form and function of your product. That’s why 3M VHB tape is essential to product designers and engineers.
What makes these tapes remarkable? Their industrial strength is capable of forming a permanent bond with the substrate. No drilling required. Once applied to a clean, prepared surface, 3M VHB tape does its job for many years.
With this level of reliability, you’re freed from using metal fasteners, rivets, welds, as well as liquid adhesives.
Why Choose 3M VHB tape for industrial bonding?
The bond is so reliably strong that it’s used for everything from securing architectural glass to locking smart screen monitors in place. Whatever conditions your industry demands, 3M VHB tape may hold your next design solution.
With its durable bond and ease of application, these alone would make 3M VHB tape a cost-effective solution. But when you add up the benefits and enhanced functionality it offers your application, its overall value is well worth the investment. You gain efficiency and your end user gains a better-functioning product.
That’s what makes VHB tape one of the most popular products at Evans Evco. These are some of the many benefits of 3M VHB tape.
- Exceptional sealing: Locks out water, dust, and debris.
- Sound and vibration damping: The foam core in double-sided tape can absorb sound and reduces annoying vibration.
- Reduces mechanical work: No drilling, welding, or grinding required. 3M VHB tape reaches handling strength immediately after application, and its bond gains strength over time. To optimize throughput, VHB tape can be die-cut to fit your component through a custom converter like Evans Evco.
- Sleek design: VHB tape provides nearly invisible sealing, leaving smooth lines and a unified appearance. Because there’s no need for fasteners, you can use slimmer, lighter materials.
- Closer tolerance fit: Has a rigid format that can be die-cut for close tolerance applications.
- Conformable: Can fit into tight corners and bond to irregularly shaped surfaces.

To get things started, here’s a guide to five commonly used 3M VHB tapes:
3M™ VHB™ Tape 4910
Description: Clear double-coated acrylic foam tape with a PE film liner and acrylic adhesive on both sides.
Thickness: 0.040 inches (1.0 mm)
Uses: Provides virtually invisible fastening, making it ideal for bonding transparent or translucent materials, as well as materials with high surface energy, such as metals, glass, and certain plastics.
3M™ VHB™ Tape 5952P
Description: Black double-coated acrylic foam tape with a PCK paper liner and modified acrylic adhesive on both sides.
Thickness: 0.045 inches (1.1 mm)
Uses: Provides strong, durable bonding on high, medium, and medium/low surface energy substrates including metals, glass, a wide variety of plastics, and powder-coated paints. The very conformable foam ensures contact between slightly mismatched surfaces, making it ideal for replacing mechanical fasteners like rivets, screws, and welds, and for creating permanent seals against water and moisture.
3M™ VHB™ Tape GPH-060GF
Description: Gray double-sided acrylic foam tape with a red polyethylene film liner.
Thickness: 0.025 inches (0.6 mm)
Uses: Provides strong, durable bonding on a variety of substrates, including metals, plastics, and painted materials. The conformable foam ensures effective contact between slightly mismatched surfaces. This tape offers superior high-temperature performance, making it suitable for assembly prior to powder coat or liquid paint processes involving a paint-bake cycle, and for applications with high operating temperatures.
3M™ VHB™ Tape LSE-060WF
Description: White conformable double-coated acrylic foam tape with high initial tack and a very conformable foam core.
Thickness: 0.025 inches (0.6 mm)
Uses: Enables bonding of many low surface energy (LSE) substrates/materials without the use of a primer or adhesion promoter. Suitable for bonding high, medium, and low surface energy substrates, including metals and plastics such as PP, PA, TPO, and composites. Available in three different thicknesses and features a red polyethylene film liner. Provides good low-temperature tack and stress relaxation due to its soft foam core, making it easy to apply in both indoor and outdoor applications.
3M™ VHB™ Tape LVO-110BF
Description: Black double-sided acrylic foam tape with a PE film liner and low odor adhesive.
Thickness: 0.045 inches (1.1 mm)
Uses: Bonds a broad range of substrates and plastics, optimized for polypropylene and polystyrene. The highly conformable foam ensures good contact between slightly mismatched substrates and offers better gap-filling capabilities. Part of the low VOC and low odor (LVO) tape family, this product features low odor adhesive and very conformable foam but varies in thickness.
